America, Here She Comes!!

First, get your minds out the gutter. Second, I have to admit I am loving Leona Lewis' song Bleeding Love. The single has already hit #1 in the UK. Plus, her album, Spirit, is the fast selling UK album in history. Not bad for a 22 year old.

Leona won the UK's X Factor show, which is like our American Idol, and its hefty recording contract, back in 2006. Unlike some past AI winners, Leona is destined for great things (ahem Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken...etc.). Her wikipedia entry says she is of Gyuyanese Afro-Caribbean and Anglo-Welsh descent, among other things. She's made it big over the pond already and is now attempting to conquer America. Bleeding Love is already on itunes. Expect Spirit to hit this side of the Atlantic April 8th.

Here is the American video for Bleeding Love:

The original:

I have to admit I like the original better only because there is more going on. The storyline is better, the eye makeup on Leona is crazy and where can I get those tights with the different circles the girl on the bed is wearing? Those might be the only tights I would ever wear.

Happy Love Day!!

May the love of family, friends and lovers be with you!!!

Xtina's New Man Part II

Max is such a little cutie with his chubby cheeks...aawww. I have to say the green evil moon looking thing in the nursery is not my cup of tea but other than that I love the non conventional design of the room, especially the white round crib and wall mural.

You have to admit Christina looks great too. That hooker red lipstick all day every day was not working for her. Motherhood looks good on her.

Yes We Can/Change Uptowns

These uptowns (I'm from Brooklyn) are pretty hot. Wonder if Mr. President will rock them while touring a neighborhood or visiting a college? He does have the swagger to pull this off.

JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL - Amy Winehouse edition part deux

Because blogger was acting up I couldn't post the Amy Winehouse Grammy performance video on the last post but here goes:

Since when was performing sober such an accomplishment? She did sound great though. Remember kids: Crack is whack!!!! LOL

JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL

I was going to leave well enough alone but this has been bugging me ever since the Grammys aired last night. Why do the Grammy feel the need to glorify and reward atrocious behavior? Amy Winehouse has talent beyond comprehension. She is truly gifted and I'm not trying to take any of that from her but why is she basically defacating on the talent that half of the billboard top 100 would cut a b*tch for? When Amy (can I call her Amy?) first came out with the single Rehab it was a fun song but little did we know the full extent of what looks like a hardcore drug addiction. Walking the streets at crack head hours with no shoes calling out for your equally strung out husband is not a sign of sobriety or of recreational drug use.

Even after all the displays of an obviously life threatening addiction, the Grammys chose to not only honor her with 6 nominations leading to 5 wins but go through all the time, labor, and expense to broadcast her performance from London live via satellite. What kind of message are you sending out to the rest of the music industry? Be a full out crackhead and be rewarded with glorious attributes? Skip out on concerts or better yet cuss out concert goers who boo your intoxicated performances and be the belle of the music industry? How do we justify this to those recording artists who hold their craft dear to their hearts? They labor with their pen and paper, spend many hours perfecting their works in the studio and months touring so they can share their hearts with their fans. Because they're not the object of laughter in the gossip magazines they are less worthy?

My whole problem with the situation boils down to this: if Amy Winehouse does not care enough about her music to nurture and treasure her talents then why should any of her work be rewarded, especially when there are much more deserving artists out there who do deserve the recognition?

Thank goodness I am not alone in my thinking. Natalie Cole had this to say about Amy's Grammy nominations:

"I think she has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammys giving her those nods. I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards. It's a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn't have a grasp of what she has. I've been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offence to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they're in – she needs to get her life together and embrace her craft, she will lose it if she doesn't get it together."

Keith Richards (should he really be talking?) : "[Amy] should get her act together". Wow.

Ok, now that I let that out, I kind of feel better.

Yes We Can

Watch this video loaded of with celebrity supporters remixing Mr. President's speech. For those who miss easy hints, I am an Obama supporter. He even received $25 of my money. Now you know it's serious, lol. Back to the video, I love that it was shot in black & white with no fuss, just celebs ad libbing and echoing Mr. President's speech. Very reminiscent of a certain Dream speech and also speeches given by two brothers in a dynasty long held to be part of America's only royal family. It wasn't commissioned by Barack's people but if I were them I would be running this as a commercial all over California but that's as deep as I'm getting about politics on a blog called Style For Me. I could go on for days tho :-)

Hi There

These babies are just screaming my name. They're only $190. Imagine the endless outfit combos. I'd go with a short LBD and minimal silver jewelry to make the shoes the focus.

Dance Off!

Sometimes you gotta get joy from the simple things. Now neither one of these dudes are about to audition to become Chris Brown's back up dancer but they do have some unexpected rhythm.

First up is Mr. President, Barack Obama, shaking his little tush on Ellen:

Next is David Gregory, NBC's Chief White House Correspondent, aka the go to guy on White House goings ons. He sometimes co-hosts or does special commentary for NBC and MSNBC news and political shows. Good dude, I like his work. Anyhoo, here he is feeling Mary's "Just Fine" on the Today Show:

I have to give the Style For Me Dance Off! trophy to David Gregory. My man had this contest won when he twirled around and still didn't miss a beat. He switched up the movements, had the pelvic movements and all. You can't tell me doesn't love to dance. I still love Barack but next time put some more energy into your movements or at least have more than one dance move (sorry).
