I just knew it was only a matter of time before this senile racist failed politician took his buffoonery to television. Below is a clip of his appearance on the Chris Matthews Show on MSNBC. Right now I won't comment on Chris and his prior not so veiled sexist comments. I will let Buchanan's bigotry be the focus of this post.

For anyone who thinks this appearance was misunderstood or his words were clipped together to appear racist, let me lead you down the clear path by linking to his disgusting essay, 'A Brief for Whitey'. Make no mistake folks,Pat Buchanan is a racist and in all likelihood, a segregationist.

It's a shame that in times like these when a Black man and a White woman who are each fully qualified to run for President, we still have people like this invited (by a liberal leaning newschannel) to provide guest commentary. Who authorized this? Is this MSNBC's way of copying Fox's scheme to appear unbiased? If that's the case then it's NOT working. It is insulting to your viewers. It puts the brakes on an ideological machine trying to move forward.

They need to let this old fool retire in peace before they lose not only viewers, but their credibility. Both of which are now shaky anyway.

P.S. As long as this nut job doesn't appear on Countdown, then none of this applies to Keith Olbermann. I still love him.

Let's cross the Atlantic for a little bit with this post. Back in '05 I met and fell in love with a French cutie named Matt. Now in '08, I am ashamed to say that although he and I have grown apart these past few years, something about him still makes me tingly. I will now introduce you to my crush, Matt Pokora, he now goes by M Pokora for legal reasons but he will always be Matt to me.

Some call him the French Justin Timberlake but I think he's cuter than JT (only because JT has gotten less masculine, and more non showered looking lately). Sorry for lack of posts. Sometimes life gives you 15 balls to juggle with no extra hands (no gutter talk intended).

This morning, during my routine check of several sites that deal with current events, I happened on something that almost made me spill my coffee. I never thought I would see the day that Condi Rice actually discussed race and it's place in American politics. Secretary Rice had this to say about Barack's historical speech on race:

[T]here is a paradox for this country and a contradiction of this country and we still haven't resolved it. But what I would like understood as a black American is that black Americans loved and had faith in this country even when this country didn't love and have faith in them, and that's our legacy.

My grandmother and my great-grandmother, and my father, who endured terrible humiliations growing up -- and my father in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and my mother's family in Birmingham, Alabama-- still loved this country. And I've often spoken of the Civil Rights Movement as the second founding of America, because finally we started to overcome this birth defect. But if anybody believes that black Americans love this country any less than white Americans do, they ought to go and talk to people who live under very tough circumstances, sometimes doing menial labor and doing tough jobs, and really all they want is the American dream. All they're focused on is is their kid going to be well educated enough to go to college and have a better life than they had. And one of the things that attracted me to George W. Bush, one of the primary things, it was not actually foreign policy, it was No Child Left Behind. Because when he talked about the soft bigotry of low expectations, I know what that feels like.

And so to my mind, where our understanding of and conversation of race has got to go. And I mean now, race. Black Americans aren't immigrants. We may call ourselves African Americans, but we're not immigrants. We don't mimic the immigrant story. Where this conversation has got to go is that black Americans and white Americans founded this country together and I think we've always wanted the same thing. And it's been now a very hard and long struggle to begin to get to the place that we can all pursue the same thing.

Say what you want about Secretary Rice but this for sure: she became who she is by not letting the "black struggle" be an excuse. She was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth but worked hard, probably harder than most to even be noticed, and is now a world leader. Many people throw insults at her calling her traitor for "not remembering where she comes from", but place yourself in her shoes and what would you do? Would you decline the position and with it the ability to help others in a way no one else can or work with someone who maybe has different views from you but do work that will help others for generations to come?

Don't get it wrong I don't know her so I can only hypothesize on her reasoning but I hesitate to judge only because I think her actions come from a good place. Maybe she needs some decision-making help but all in all, she's doing her best. Hopefully our next Secretary of State will still have a good heart but will have better aides to help implement his or her plans (and a better stylist! You are the face of American international relations for goodness sake!!).

The Wire Series Finale???

Ok, I've been uninspired the past couple weeks. Nothing caught my eye that I wanted to write about so I didn't :-)

Anyhoo, I just realized The Wire is having it's series finale on March 9th. How did this happen? Does HBO not realize how friggin good this show is? They keep bullshit shows but they don't offer The Wire cast and crews bucket loads of money and incentives to continue producing ridiculous episodes? My feelings are hurt.

Ok, I said all that but I haven't watched a single episode of this season. Comcast is freaking expensive. Damn bastards. I already know so far this season my absolute favorite character, Omar, the gay thug who will outsmart you then kick your ass, got got by a little kid. Damn. Just damn. Anyway, I plan on paying up and watching every episode before the finale. I've been scouring online to try to find out the ending but came up with nada. I can't stand not knowing!!! If anyone is interested in changing my lack of knowledge, holla!

First, get your minds out the gutter. Second, I have to admit I am loving Leona Lewis' song Bleeding Love. The single has already hit #1 in the UK. Plus, her album, Spirit, is the fast selling UK album in history. Not bad for a 22 year old.

Leona won the UK's X Factor show, which is like our American Idol, and its hefty recording contract, back in 2006. Unlike some past AI winners, Leona is destined for great things (ahem Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken...etc.). Her wikipedia entry says she is of Gyuyanese Afro-Caribbean and Anglo-Welsh descent, among other things. She's made it big over the pond already and is now attempting to conquer America. Bleeding Love is already on itunes. Expect Spirit to hit this side of the Atlantic April 8th.

I was going to leave well enough alone but this has been bugging me ever since the Grammys aired last night. Why do the Grammy feel the need to glorify and reward atrocious behavior? Amy Winehouse has talent beyond comprehension. She is truly gifted and I'm not trying to take any of that from her but why is she basically defacating on the talent that half of the billboard top 100 would cut a b*tch for? When Amy (can I call her Amy?) first came out with the single Rehab it was a fun song but little did we know the full extent of what looks like a hardcore drug addiction. Walking the streets at crack head hours with no shoes calling out for your equally strung out husband is not a sign of sobriety or of recreational drug use.

Even after all the displays of an obviously life threatening addiction, the Grammys chose to not only honor her with 6 nominations leading to 5 wins but go through all the time, labor, and expense to broadcast her performance from London live via satellite. What kind of message are you sending out to the rest of the music industry? Be a full out crackhead and be rewarded with glorious attributes? Skip out on concerts or better yet cuss out concert goers who boo your intoxicated performances and be the belle of the music industry? How do we justify this to those recording artists who hold their craft dear to their hearts? They labor with their pen and paper, spend many hours perfecting their works in the studio and months touring so they can share their hearts with their fans. Because they're not the object of laughter in the gossip magazines they are less worthy?

My whole problem with the situation boils down to this: if Amy Winehouse does not care enough about her music to nurture and treasure her talents then why should any of her work be rewarded, especially when there are much more deserving artists out there who do deserve the recognition?

Thank goodness I am not alone in my thinking. Natalie Cole had this to say about Amy's Grammy nominations:

"I think she has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammys giving her those nods. I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards. It's a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn't have a grasp of what she has. I've been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offence to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they're in – she needs to get her life together and embrace her craft, she will lose it if she doesn't get it together."

Now that both the song and video are catching up some steam I don't have to hide the fact that I LOVE both anymore. The video for Please Don't Stop The Music originally premiered back in July 2007 but no one was really feeling it (except for me, I guess) so Rihanna's camp pushed Hate That I Love You instead. With that thought, we should take care of what we put in our bodies, work out how & where we can and love the ones who love us (and maybe some who might not quite love us, lol). Everything else will take care of itself.

Hi,

Welcome to my itty bitty blog. I am doing this purely our of selfishness so I can somewhat curb my shopping. Unfortunately I am getting at an age when I have to start saving for random stuff like buying a house and setting up my retirement plan. God I'm getting old.

Anyway, back to less horrifying things...I will post on things like fashion, beauty, and other random things that sometimes have nothing to do with the aforementioned things. Hopefully it sounds coherent to the average reader and not just to myself, lol. Enjoy!
